Once you've seen all there is to see on the Road to Hana, you'll start the trek along the backside of Hana. And what a different world that is! Because this desert-like side isn't a place many visitors stop, there aren't many options if you find yourself in need of a snack or drink!
Thankfully, you'll drive by Kaupo Store at the moment you think you can't wait any longer! This quaint store has an eclectic mix of vintage cameras and cold drinks. And if you need a few trinkets to bring home as souvenirs, then this is the place for you! Its run by locals, so you might even find yourself on their shaded patio "talking story". This store runs on Maui time, and everyone moves at a leisurely pace. Don't be in a hurry and you'll find yourself enjoying this quirky stop!
This stop is part general store, part museum and is a fun last stop before the empty winding roads back to your starting point!
We recognize the use of diacritical markings of the (modern) Hawaiian language including the ʻokina [ʻ] or glottal stop and the kahakō [ō] or macron (e.g., in place names of Hawaiʻi such as Lānaʻi). However, you may notice these diacritical markings have been omitted on some parts of this website to ensure the best online experience for our visitors. We recognizes the importance of using these markings to preserve the language and culture of Hawaii and respectfully uses them in all communications beyond the online platform.
